Academics

SHJS seeks to inspire each student in partnership with their families to reflect the love of Jesus. We use an approved and effective curriculum from the Archdiocese of Denver Catholic Schools to give parents confidence that their investment in a Catholic school education will support their child’s complete development and personal success. A rigorous, time-tested curriculum taught by committed faculty in a faith-based and nurturing environment results in measurably accomplished academic achievement. Catholic teachings, faith, and traditions are integral to a curriculum that reinforces what is taught at home, including virtues of discipline, respect, and responsibility which will provide guidance and inspiration as your child navigates life’s challenges.

Our curriculum is under constant study and revision as we become aware of new trends and teaching tools. Textbooks are to be considered tools to aid in the teaching of the curriculum. Additional tools include supplementary and reference books, audio-visual aids, field trips, and computer lab resources.

The Office of Catholic Schools provides courses of study/curriculum guides for mandatory use in all archdiocesan and parish Catholic schools.  Those specific academic guidelines may be found here.

All students receive Spanish and computer classes along with their normal curriculum.

Opportunities are available for students to participate in school plays and concerts.

Mission Statement

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School seeks to inspire each student in partnership with their families to reflect the love of Jesus. We provide a Catholic learning environment that enhances spiritual growth, encourages academic excellence, fosters mutual respect, and develops personal responsibility with service to others.

Academic Objectives

We believe in a traditional approach to learning fundamentals based on a challenging and productive learning environment where students are motivated by high expectations.

We believe in a challenging core curriculum that is partnered with religious activities, fine and performing arts, physical education, foreign language study and computer technology.

Academic Expectations

Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Catholic School within the Archdiocese of Denver, and follows an established, academically challenging curriculum. All teachers are routinely and thoroughly trained in the curriculum. The specific academic guidelines for each grade level and subject area may be found here.

All Sacred Heart of Jesus students are expected to strive to make steady progress toward mastery of the curriculum presented at each grade level. Mastery of the curriculum is a prerequisite for advancing to the next grade level.

Our Philosophy

As part of the Archdiocese of Denver Catholic school system, our goal is to educate the whole child, through formation in the Catholic faith within a nurturing community. We expect and support each student’s individual best personal performance to our rigorous academic standards. Equipped with a strong Catholic foundation, a rich academic background and well-developed analytical skills, we strive to prepare our students to meet all of life’s opportunities.

Our pastor, Fr. Mark Kovacik, is committed to leading our parish community through Christ’s example while building a clear, common vision of the future of our parish school. Our students are led by dedicated stewards of our Catholic faith supported by the parish community and within an environment of trust and growth.
