Learning Center

LEARNING CENTER

The Learning Center was established in 2015 to coordinate resources and support the diverse learning style of our students. The Learning Center supports teachers of all grades to assess the individual needs of students, to determine effective educational interventions and to provide differentiation within the classroom. We remain current with appropriate instructional theory of practice and research. Continually seeking innovative and creative approaches to adjust, modify and enrich our curriculum.

How do we adjust, modify and enrich?

RTI (Behavioral and Academic): RTI is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. These services may be provided by a variety of personnel, including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists. Progress is closely monitored to assess both the learning rate and level of performance of individual students. Educational decisions about the intensity and duration of interventions are based on individual student response to instruction

TAG Identification and ALP establishment: Our Advanced Learner Programs (ALPs) for elementary and middle school students who are ready for more academic challenge is a  school-specific program that aligns with the guidelines established by the National Association for Gifted Children. The identification process includes a Body of Evidence which includes a battery of tests, interviews and work samples. Our identification process includes the indicators for giftedness including: SIGS, Torrence, COgAT, Nalgari. Enrichment options may include but are not limited to:

-Curriculum compacting, allowing for more rapid progress -Topic enrichment (requires teacher mentor support) -Individual course advancement

IEP Management and 504 Writing: We have a full time interventionist (SPED Educator) who supports children with special education designations and those struggling below grade level in literacy and math

Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy: Our SLP and OT work closely with classroom teachers and the RTI team to provide targeted treatment plans for students.

Counseling: Our school counseling department not only serves with individual student sessions, but also helps educate staff, provides group therapy and conducts unique student leadership groups so there is peer-peer education and learning.
